Cloud storage is basically a means of computer information storage where the virtual data is stored on a virtualized network, referred to as a cloud. The cloud storage servers span multiple virtual servers, which is hosted on a remote hosting platform, and this means that the user’s data will be available irrespective of the server’s location. These services use a common vocabulary for describing the virtualization, but there are actually several variations. One of the most well-known forms is the IaaS model, which is also known as application service platform. This model is usually used in e-commerce websites. The other type is the SaaS model, which can be used for automating administrative tasks such as billing, inventory control, product tracking and reporting, and system integration.

 

Another popular type of cloud storage is the hybrid cloud storage, which combines some features of both the IaaS and SaaS models. Hybrid solutions store data on servers and use the computing power to execute some functions, while accessing the data from another location. One example of a hybrid solution is the usage of a web server and a local data center. Such a solution would have the advantage of lower power consumption. Another advantage is the fact that the user need not rent any extra hardware for his own computing needs.
